About YAWA.

YAWA is a First Nations-led network dedicated to promoting and preserving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives on culture, country, climate, and health.

YAWA is made up of First Nations members from many diverse Countries.

    Jem Stone

    YAWA Facilitator

    Jem is a First Nations Woman who lives and works on Wurundjeri land. She has mixed heritage, is a Cultural Educator, Wellness Practitioner and Trainer.

  • Steve Ulula Parker

    YAWA Facilitator

    Steve is a Traditional Custodian of Boonwurrung Country. He is an artist, musician, performer, cultural educator and a mentor of Indigenous youth.

  • Gaby Bruning

    YAWA Facilitator

    Gaby is an Aboriginal woman who lives and works on Wurundjeri land. Gaby has worked in the Alcohol and Other Drug sector for 10 years.

  • Sonya Hunt

    YAWA Facilitator

    Sonya is a Barkindji woman living on Boonrurrung Country. She is a Koorie Engagement Support Officer at Department of Education and Training, Victoria.

What we do

YAWA exists to:

  • Connect mob with culture, Country and each other

  • Strengthen First Nations wellbeing practices

  • Share First Nations wisdom so everyone can learn

We run listening circles in the Kulin Nation. These are a safe space for yarning and healing.

YAWA members meet fortnightly to discuss and plan listening circles.
